Özgür Özel recalls Erdoğan's earthquake promise: 'He deceived Osmaniye too'

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel spoke at his party's election office.

Reminding that they were in the hometown of MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, who was elected Chairman for the 11th time today, Özel said, "Today, we read a piece of news this morning. Mr. Bahçeli had an accident, his shoulder was injured, his arm was injured. From here, in his hometown, I wish him a speedy recovery and convey my respects."

STATEMENT ON PENSIONERS

Stating that Erdoğan had accused him of 'inciting pensioners,' Özel said, "Tayyip Bey, you are right. I have come to the land of our pensioners. I have come to incite them against you. Does the pensioner need me to be incited, to stand up, my brother?"

"HE DECEIVED OSMANIYE TOO"

Recalling the earthquake housing promises made after the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes that occurred on February 6, 2023, Özel continued his words as follows:

"We lost 1,010 of our citizens in Osmaniye; may God never show us such an earthquake again. The duty of all local administrators is to create cities resilient to natural disasters, floods, and earthquakes. A promise was made to Osmaniye along with all of Turkey. Tayyip Bey came out and said; 'There is a need for 650 thousand houses in Turkey. We will build these houses within 1 year.' We said; 'You will not build these in 1 year.' A month later, he said 'I will build 319 thousand houses.' So far, he has delivered 45,900 houses in Turkey. That is 7 percent. He did not keep his promise to 93 out of 100 earthquake survivors. They are still in containers, still in tents. 

But I used the same expression when I came to Osmaniye. The Governor of Osmaniye objected and then made a statement. The statement confirmed me, but I said it that day. I said, 'Look, I will follow the promise made to Osmaniye, you are not even delivering 10 percent at the end of 1 year; you are deceiving them.' He thought he was refuting me, but the figures he gave confirmed me. More than 1 year has passed since February 6. The housing need in Osmaniye is 20,502. How many houses did they deliver? 1,976, which is 9.6 percent. Whatever Özgür Özel calculated, whatever he said, that is how it is. In Osmaniye, 1 out of 10 people is inside, 9 are outside. Currently, a total of 8,000 houses have been tendered; some are at the foundation stage, some in the project stage, some in the rough construction stage, but not even a nail has been driven into 12,500 houses, they haven't even been tendered. 

Now, what is apparent is this; the promises made to Osmaniye and the earthquake region before the election have not been kept, they have been left alone. Well, you were saying to Hatay; 'Look Hatay, you didn't give me your vote, you didn't receive service, you remained forlorn.' He was punishing Hatay for the past election and threatening it for the real election, he was blackmailing it. My brother, Osmaniye is in the People's Alliance; it is not 25,000 people like Hatay; 1,000 people died. There is a need for 1/25th the number of buildings as Hatay. You are going to provide 25,000 houses in total, but whatever the situation is in Hatay, the situation is the same in Osmaniye. So what does this mean? Being on the side of the government, being in the same alliance does not solve the problem. So what does this mean? Tayyip Bey has deceived Hatay, and he has deceived Osmaniye too."
