Özgür Özel's '3T' response to MHP's Ataman: 'Rudeness'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, who visited IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu at Silivri Prison, made statements.

Highlights from Özel's speech are as follows:

“We met with our friends Ceyda Kiryak, Fatoş Pınar Türker, Elif Güven, İpek Elif Atayman, and Güldem Şık, who are being held at the Silivri Women's Prison. These friends have two characteristics. They all possess high-level merit, have worked in the best companies in Turkey and the world in their professional backgrounds, and are the best in their fields—a fact often mentioned in public as Mr. İmamoğlu creating a team of 'talent hunters, headhunters' in line with his understanding of good governance and working with the best in Istanbul, which is true.

When each is examined, they have achievements that their families and they themselves can be proud of in their professional histories. They are people who, upon Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu's invitation, felt the dream, hope, and excitement of managing the world's most important metropolis in the best way possible and accepted the duty. These friends are authorized bureaucrats in their fields who were taken under the pressure of trying to extract a gang or a criminal organization from the team with which Ekrem İmamoğlu manages Istanbul. They have no idea why they are here or why they are being kept here. You are surprised when you listen to their stories. One truly feels sad and ashamed. On the other hand, another characteristic is that they are constantly kept under pressure to be false witnesses and to slander. I know which prosecutors said what to whom and when, saying, 'We are meeting via SEGBİS, the screen will turn off soon, you won't be able to see me again, you won't be able to see your children for 10 years' under these pressures. I have the evidence, and as long as this persecution continues, the duration of the account they will have to give in the future will also extend. I am warning you once again from here. Do not threaten anyone with their child or their freedom. What does it mean, 'You are not testifying as I want'? What does it mean, 'If you say what I say, if you say what I tell you, your job is easy?'

You are going to put countless mayors inside, an empty indictment, come on, prepare it. I am telling the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor from here. You had a MASAK report, you had strong evidence, you had witnesses. Where is the indictment? They are in a state where they cannot write an indictment. They are trying to produce new witnesses by telling those who worked with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in the past but do not work now, 'Testify like this.' They tell those who received tenders from the ministry in Istanbul: 'Look, you will lose your bread there, lie here.' I am calling out to all of Turkey and the Ministry of Justice from here, I am calling out to the Minister of Justice. Our friends are inside. You have all the evidence in your hands. You have all the statements in your hands. Come on, write the indictment, let's see. Write the indictment, let's see what you will write? Every branch you held onto has broken in your hands.

From here, from Beylikdüzü, I repeat the call I made to Mr. Devlet Bahçeli yesterday. We have also talked with all our friends. Devlet Bey was always saying, 'What does the CHP say to a Terror-Free Turkey?' I say to Devlet Bey, 'Come on, 3 Rs. I am in. We are in. Terror-free Turkey, trial without arrest, release of detainees, broadcasting on TRT. Broadcast all the allegations, the trial to be held from Silivri, on television, on TRT. Let the nation hear the prosecutor's questions, and let the nation hear the answers he will receive. We have given our answers one by one both at the police station and at the prosecutor's office. We have no account we cannot give. I also support a Terror-Free Turkey. We expect support from Devlet Bey regarding release without arrest and live broadcast on TRT. Then a brand new Turkey will begin. We are showing the courage required of us. Let everyone show it.

Today, we met with Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu, Mr. Mehmet Murat Çalık, Mr. Emrah Şahan, Mr. Rıza Akpolat, Mr. Mehmet Ali Çalışkan, and Mr. Can Atalay. President Ekrem is working inside both as our Presidential Candidate and as the President of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, the elected president, and as the guardian of Istanbul with the duty given by Istanbul. He tells our delegation today that he is closely following a great evil done to Istanbul, that he will expose this in the coming days and draw the attention of Istanbul and Turkey to this point with that agenda, that Istanbul is entrusted to him, and that keeping him here is not a betrayal to him but to Istanbul. 'This nation entrusted Istanbul to me for five years. I am the guardian of Istanbul. They are attacking Istanbul. I am aware of what they are doing. Starting tomorrow, I will explain these,' we would like to share this note with you.

The meeting we had with Can Atalay has a historical significance. The decision made by the Constitutional Court regarding Can Atalay is a decision sent to be read in the Parliament. It is a decision sent to the Court of Cassation to be fulfilled. Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş also knows, as we have discussed these with him many times, that Constitutional Court decisions bind everyone, that is what is written in the Constitution. It binds the legislative, executive, and judiciary separately. Someone told the judiciary 'Do not comply with the Constitutional Court decision,' and an objection was made to the Constitutional Court on this matter. The Constitutional Court stated that its decision binds everyone. It also announced the decision with its justification. This decision must be read in Parliament. Not reading it is a crime against the Constitution. The person committing the crime is Numan Kurtulmuş. Gülizar Biçer Karaca, who did not become a partner in that mistake yesterday and read the decision during her duty as Deputy Speaker of Parliament, did the right thing. If there were a trial in the country for not complying with Constitutional Court decisions, Numan Kurtulmuş would receive a sentence, and Gülizar Biçer Karaca would be acquitted. Gülizar Biçer Karaca perhaps even saved Numan Kurtulmuş with her action. She did it on behalf of the Parliament. Now they are ranting about this action. Who are you to not comply with a Constitutional Court decision and to accuse those who do?

I am warning Mr. Numan with courtesy, based on the relationship between us, with courtesy. What did you say at first? You said, 'Support us, support me.' What did I say? 'I am nominating a candidate for two years, act as an impartial Parliament Speaker for two years, an impartial Parliament Speaker. After two years, I will not nominate a candidate against you, I will support you.' Now we have reached the final point. We are at the point where the zurna 'zırt' (the breaking point). We are at the point where the touchstone is struck. The Constitutional Court decision has been read in accordance with the Constitution. Instead of saying 'It has been read, the requirement has been fulfilled' against this, removing access to the minutes yesterday... What is it, they say they are removing it as a precaution. What is spoken in Parliament is in the minutes. The minutes are the honor of the Parliament. The Deputy Speaker of Parliament who had the decision read from the Constitutional Court. Now he is going to take a position against her, or he is going to use his powers. If you are going to use your powers, you will stand behind the decision that was read. Otherwise, you can never explain your impartiality to any of us, nor to Turkey, nor to your own conscience. I would advise a person who comes from that HAS Party period and is actually known for thinking differently, not to sign an act that he cannot explain to himself and his conscience when he puts his head on the pillow. What happens if you do? What did I say? The Istanbul press asked, 'What are these actions?' at the beginning of this process. I said, 'It is a declaration of war.' I said, 'Mr. Tayyip has declared war, it is on our head.' They asked, 'What will you do?' I said, 'I will do what a person and a party that has been declared war upon would do.' I am telling Mr. Numan. Do not try to declare war on us. I will accept it as a declaration of war. Do not threaten my Deputy Speaker of Parliament, I will accept it as a declaration of war. Do not threaten my clerk member, I will accept it as a declaration of war. Do not take any more steps contrary to the Constitution from now on, I will accept it as a declaration of war."
