Özgür Özel's statement on Burcu Köksal: 'Her style is harsh, it is destructive for the ruling power'

The CHP Chairman made a statement regarding Burcu Köksal during a live broadcast on Habertürk.

Highlights from Özel's statements are as follows: 

"Just nine months ago, you became a member of parliament with opposition votes in Eskişehir. Then you switch to the AKP and use inappropriate expressions regarding a figure like Yılmaz Büyükerşen.

"HER STYLE IS HARSH"

(Regarding the statements of Afyon candidate Burcu Köksal) Ms. Burcu went out to give a speech. I did not notice what was said during the speech. Then we made our own speech. Ms. Burcu was nominated in her province with full consensus. In fact, Burcu's characteristic is this: She talks about Afyon at every opportunity she finds in Parliament. Her style is harsh; it is destructive for the ruling power. 

If I had noticed it during the speech, I would have corrected it. I called her and said, 'I will correct this in Uşak.' She said, 'Please do, Mr. Chairman.'

In the statement she made today, Burcu Köksal said, 'I will not exclude anyone based on their race or views' .

"I WILL NOT REMAIN IN OFFICE IF I DO NOT MAKE THE PARTY THE RULING POWER IN THE UPCOMING GENERAL ELECTIONS"

Stating that his future goal is to make the CHP the ruling power in the first general elections, Özel continued as follows:

"My goal for the future is to make the CHP the ruling power in the first general elections. I have no other goal. Going down in history as the Chairman who ended the AK Party's rule is the greatest legacy I will leave to my daughter, my family, my children, and my personal history. I will make the party the ruling power in the upcoming general elections. If I do not, I will not stay in office for a single day. I would call for an extraordinary congress and would not run as a candidate myself. We will look at the overall picture in the local elections. I believe that we will retain all 11 metropolitan municipalities we currently hold in the local elections. There are a few provinces we see as risky. I do not want to lower the motivation of any province here. There is no province where we have thrown in the towel or where it is seen that we have lost."

Touching upon Lütfü Savaş's candidacy, Özel stated that Savaş emerged as the best candidate in all 4 polls conducted in Hatay.

Stating that it is out of the question that names close to former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu were not selected during the candidate determination process, Özel expressed that they conducted the process objectively.

Noting that İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer will support the CHP in İzmir, CHP Chairman Özel assessed, "Not supporting İzmir would create a damage for him in İzmir that he could not compensate for."
