Özgür Özel takes audio recording claim a step further: 'The recordings are in a bank vault'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made new allegations regarding Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek during his speech at the rally held in Rize. Having previously claimed that Gürlek records his meetings with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Özel this time made statements regarding the location where the recordings in question are kept.

CLAIM THAT "MEMORY CARDS ARE IN A BANK VAULT"

Speaking from the rally podium, Özgür Özel alleged that the audio recordings he claims Akın Gürlek made are on memory cards and that these cards are stored in a bank vault in Ankara.

In his statement, Özel addressed President Erdoğan with the following words:

"I am addressing Erdoğan. Today in Ankara, that bank, that vault in that bank—it is closed, but the Ministry of Interior can go there, can have a decision made quickly, can have that bank vault opened, and can seize those memory cards where Akın Gürlek has recorded your voice for the future."

In a statement he made a day earlier, Özgür Özel had also claimed that Akın Gürlek records the conversations he has with President Erdoğan.

With his latest statement at the Rize Rally, Özel alleged that the recordings in question are kept on memory cards and that they are located in a bank vault in Ankara.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an ex officio investigation into CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's "audio recording" claims.

It was alleged that Özel committed the crime of "publicly disseminating misleading information" within the scope of Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK).
