Özgür Özel unveils CHP's new party program: 'The march to power begins'

The Republican People's Party (CHP) has introduced its draft party program, prepared under the title "Strong Citizen, Secure Future, Winning Turkey." The draft was read by CHP Secretary General Selin Sayek Böke at the "Party Program Draft and Approach Documents Introduction Meeting" held at the CHP Headquarters. This program will be submitted to the delegates for a vote at the 39th Ordinary CHP Congress, which will take place at the Ankara Arena Sports Hall on November 28-30, 2024.

ÖZGÜR ÖZEL'S STATEMENT ON THE MARCH TO POWER

Speaking at the introduction of the party program, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel stated that the upcoming period will be called the "march to power." During this process, he said, "Our priority is for the parties to reach a consensus through common sense within the framework of social dialogue." Özel explained the party program, which includes economic, social, and political reforms, in detail.

Making statements regarding the party program, Özel advocated for the release of political prisoners and the end of the practice of appointing trustees (kayyum). Stating, "We will root out evil. What Turkey needs is an approach that does not ignore problems, but faces them, solves them, and produces politics," Özel also touched upon the importance of social peace.

STATUS OF PLACES OF WORSHIP FOR CEMEVIS

Within the scope of the CHP's new party program, significant regulations regarding Alevism were also included. Stating that they will grant cemevis the status of places of worship, Özel said, "We will guarantee the right to equal citizenship and realize the reality that Alevism is a faith." Furthermore, it was emphasized that the Madımak Massacre should not be forgotten, and it was announced that this site would be transformed into a museum of shame.

THE RECONSTRUCTION OF TURKEY

Özel stated that they would address many issues, from the economic crisis to ensuring social justice. Saying, "In this country, there is no longer any meaning to working, doing one's job well, or producing quality goods and services," Özel added, "Desperate citizens are falling under the influence of mafia-like structures and casinos. We have the responsibility to overturn this order together with our nation."

The CHP's economic program includes a production-based, public-oriented economic goal. Saying, "We will end poverty and ensure tax justice," Özel promised to increase the minimum wage and ensure that every citizen can live with dignity.

THE MARCH TO POWER BEGINS

Following the program, Özgür Özel emphasized that the CHP would move forward in line with this goal, saying, "The process from now on will be a march to power." He added, "I invite you to the congress next week."
