Remarkable statement from Özgür Özel: 'We will field our own presidential candidate if necessary'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made comprehensive assessments regarding the "absolute nullity" ruling issued concerning the 38th Ordinary Congress of the CHP and the subsequent developments.

Stating that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu was reinstated as chairman by a court decision, Özel reacted to the delay in the congress process.

"A PARTY THAT RUNS FROM A CONGRESS CANNOT SET A GOAL OF TAKING POWER"

Criticizing the slow pace of the congress calendar, Özel said, "If there is no congress, there is no march to power."

Özel stated, "We are at such a bad point that Erdoğan was avoiding entering an election he would lose, and I was calling him to the ballot box. Now our proposal is to hold an election with the delegates elected during Kemal Bey's term. Because those delegates are under suspicion," he said.

Arguing that a party that runs from a congress cannot set a goal of taking power, Özel said, "Two CHP images have emerged. One is the appointed CHP, the other is the elected CHP. As the elected ones, we have been removed from our duties," he spoke.

"A MANAGEMENT THAT COMES TO POWER THROUGH THE PALACE JUDICIARY CANNOT BE LEGITIMATE"

Questioning the legitimacy of the party management, Özel said, "If it is not the delegates but the rival party or the government that decides who will manage a party, then that party's management cannot be legitimate."

Özel said, "Erdoğan says let this person head this party... The way to get rid of this label is to hold a congress immediately," he expressed.

Stating that the negative perception in society could change if Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu makes a decision for a congress, Özel argued that otherwise, the party cannot be an alternative for power.

"THE CURRENT CHP DOES NOT EVEN HAVE 3 PERCENT SUPPORT ON THE STREET"

Claiming that the CHP is moving away from its goal of power with its current image, Özel said, "I think that if a real congress were held today, our vote share would approach 45 percent."

Özel said, "If we were to say, 'We have withdrawn from the CHP. This is the appointed CHP,' I would be surprised if it were above 3 percent," he stated.

Stating that he bases this on feedback from 81 provinces, Özel said, "The greatest evil in its history is being done to the party. There is no solution to this business without going to a congress without delay," he spoke.

"WE WILL CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAY AT GÜVENPARK"

Claiming that there is pressure and threats of expulsion within the party, Özel said they will continue to be on the streets.

Özel said, "They tell the provinces, 'We will dismiss anyone who organizes a rally for Özgür Özel.' They are seizing the social media accounts of the provinces. There is a constant threat of expulsion," he said.

Announcing that they will gather at Güvenpark in Ankara on Saturday, Özel said, "The elected CHP will celebrate the holiday there. After the holiday, the legal struggle, the intra-party congress struggle, and the political struggle will continue," he expressed.

"WE WILL FIELD OUR OWN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE IF NECESSARY"

Özgür Özel also announced that they have different preparations in case no solution is found in the process.

Özel said, "When something is designed where the state officially accepts us as counterparts, we haven't held the congress, and we are taking the party to the election, we have preparations to take the necessary measures both by nominating a presidential candidate and when necessary," he said.

Stating that they will not easily leave the party, Özel said, "We will take the necessary steps when this business turns into a conspiracy," he expressed.

"KEMAL BEY MUST ACT WITH COMMON SENSE"

Calling on Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, Özel said, "I hope there will be common sense on Kemal Bey's side. They should not be involved in a mistake that will darken the country's future," he spoke.

Stating that he would make an effort to ensure that Kılıçdaroğlu's place in party history is respected if a congress decision is made, Özel said, "But if they drag the party into chaos, they cannot handle the consequences," he said.

"PROPOSAL TO ENTRUST IT TO MURAT KARAYALÇIN"

Stating that he thinks the congress issue is being stalled, Özel also shared details regarding the contacts held with Kılıçdaroğlu.

Saying that he brought the Murat Karayalçın formula to the agenda during the process, Özel said, "If a congress decision had been made within 40-50 days, I was thinking of entrusting the headquarters to Murat Karayalçın," he said.

Özel said, "Our only condition was that a congress decision be made as soon as possible," he expressed.

ALLEGATION OF "THEY WANTED TO COME WITH THE POLICE"

Claiming that some people came to the CHP Headquarters in the morning hours while the negotiations were ongoing, Özel said, "They took some extremely criminal and dangerous types behind them and showed up at the door," he said.

Arguing that there was an attempt to intervene at the CHP Headquarters, Özel said, "They wanted to burn and destroy that place and come with the police, and they did," he expressed.
