Özgür Özel's decision on Amasya rally following detentions
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel has decided not to cancel the Amasya rally following operations targeting municipalities. The rally will take place as planned at 8:30 PM.
Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel convened the Central Executive Board (MYK) this morning following recent operations targeting his party. The meeting was held after detention orders were issued for CHP mayors.
The detention of Adana Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar, Antalya Metropolitan Mayor Muhittin Böcek, and Adıyaman Mayor Abdurrahman Tutdere caused a flurry of activity within the CHP. Following these developments, Özel held an extraordinary meeting of the MYK to decide whether or not to cancel the rally scheduled to be held in Amasya. As a result of the meeting, it was decided not to cancel the rally, and it was announced that the event would take place at 8:30 PM.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, many mayors and officials have been detained as part of the "Aziz İhsan Aktaş criminal organization" investigation. While 10 people, including Adana Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar and Adıyaman Mayor Abdurrahman Tutdere, were detained within this scope, the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office also issued a similar decision regarding Antalya Metropolitan Mayor Muhittin Böcek and his family. Aziz İhsan Aktaş had previously been arrested in a bribery investigation and was released after benefiting from the effective remorse law.
