Parliament Deputy Speaker's statement on Can Atalay: 'He must be released immediately and return to parliament'

The Constitutional Court's (AYM) ruling that the "right to be elected" and the "right to personal liberty and security" of imprisoned Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) Hatay MP Can Atalay have been violated has stirred the agenda.

Deputy Speaker of the TBMM and CHP Denizli MP Gülizar Biçer Karaca issued a statement following the Constitutional Court's (AYM) 'rights violation' ruling regarding the imprisoned TİP Hatay MP Can Atalay.

In her statement on social media, Karaca used the following expressions:

''This decision must be implemented as soon as possible, and Can Atalay must be released immediately to return to parliament to represent the citizens of Hatay.''

The Constitutional Court has ruled by majority vote that the "right to be elected" and the "right to personal liberty and security" of Can Atalay, who has been prevented from performing his parliamentary duties because he is held captive despite the mandatory provisions of the Constitution, have been violated.
