A passion for cars: 55 million [TL] Ministry of National Education tender goes to AKP candidate

The Ministry of National Education has signed off on yet another exorbitant expenditure.

While the Circular on Savings Measures, which imposes restrictions on public vehicle rentals, is being disregarded, it has emerged that the expenditure made by the Ministry of National Education (MEB) under its vehicle rental tender amounts to 55 million TL. It was reported that the rented vehicles will be used during the period from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024.

According to the report by Mustafa Bildircin from BirGün; the MEB General Directorate of Support Services held a “Vehicle Rental” tender on November 3. Two companies submitted bids for the tender, which was conducted using the bargaining method—a process often criticized for being used as a tool to “eliminate unwanted parties” in public tenders.

55 MILLION [TL] CONTRACT

It was reported that the highest bid submitted for the tender was 63 million 641 thousand TL, while the lowest bid was 55 million 208 thousand TL. The tender commission, which reviewed the bids, approved an agreement with Kayatur Filo Kiralama Anonim Şirketi, the owner of the lowest bid. A contract worth 55 million 208 thousand 428 TL was signed between the MEB and the company on November 20.

AWARDED TO AN AKP FIGURE

The close ties to the AKP of the company from which the MEB rented vehicles for 55.2 million TL drew attention. It was learned that Mehmet Kaya, who heads Kayatur Filo Kiralama, is also the owner of the Kaya Seyahat company. It was reported that Mehmet Kaya, who has secured numerous public tenders with his company Kaya Seyahat, was an AKP parliamentary candidate hopeful for Ankara in the June 24, 2018 elections, stating, “I want to serve our country.”
