Path to green passport opens for another professional group

The green passport, known as a special stamped passport that provides visa-free travel to many countries, is currently offered only to certain public officials and specific professional groups. With the newly proposed legislation, it is aimed to grant this right to doctors and dentists working in private hospitals as well.

According to the proposal, physicians and dentists who have worked in private healthcare institutions for at least 15 years and have not received a prison sentence of one year or more for an intentional crime will be able to apply for a green passport. This regulation aims to ensure that healthcare workers who have served for many years in both the public and private health sectors can benefit from the opportunities provided by the state.

CHP Edirne Deputy Ahmet Baran Yazgan made a statement after the proposal was submitted to Parliament. Yazgan stated, "Healthcare is a whole, and every individual who carries out this service with honor deserves to benefit from the opportunities provided by the state in a fair manner."

The proposal has now been referred to the Committee.

According to current law, those who can currently obtain a green passport include civil servants working in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-degree positions in state institutions, former deputies and ministers, mayors, those holding the title of state athlete, employees of certain public banks and institutions, company representatives who reach specific export targets, and lawyers registered with the bar association for at least 15 years. If the new proposal becomes law, private sector physicians and dentists will also be added to this list.

Physicians employed in the healthcare sector who have been waiting for this right for years are hopefully awaiting the implementation of the proposal.
