Preparations for a new era in the CHP: Kılıçdaroğlu's plan for mayors revealed

In light of recent developments within the CHP, the new era under Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's leadership is expected to profoundly affect the party's internal structure. Party insiders point out that Kılıçdaroğlu aims to limit the influence of municipalities over the party and to reorganize the division of authority between local governments and party organizations.

According to a report by the pro-government newspaper Türkiye Gazetesi, party headquarters sources state that in this restructuring process, which envisions the implementation of comprehensive audit and control mechanisms, the role of mayors in party policies and decision-making processes will be limited. The view that municipalities becoming the focus of the political agenda and internal conflicts harms the institutional structure is prominent within the party. Party insiders underscore this goal with the words, "The tutelage of municipalities over the party must be lifted."

In assessments emphasizing that the primary responsibility of mayors is city management and public service, it is believed that keeping them away from internal party debates and political equations will create a healthier structure for both the municipalities and the party.

On the other hand, it is stated that the successes achieved by local governments in the CHP have strategic importance for the party's general stance. Insiders point out that the success of local governments should not be directly linked to party management, highlighting the importance of clearly defining the boundaries of authority and responsibility.

While the Kılıçdaroğlu camp aims to create clearer divisions of responsibility between the party organization, members of parliament, and local governments with this new structure, it is particularly emphasized that the citizens' expectation from municipalities is service. The assessment, "Citizens elected them to serve. It is not right to leave service aside and deal with other matters," summarizes the basic logic of the new order. In the coming period, it is anticipated that the separation of party management, organizational structure, and local government positions will contribute to the party's institutional functioning.

A NEW ERA IN THE CONVENTION PROCESS

Meanwhile, the camp of Özgür Özel, which has collected enough delegate signatures for an Extraordinary Convention, is preparing to take the process to court. It is stated that an application will be made to the judiciary on the grounds that the request for a convention has not been processed, and the current management of the CHP will be evaluated through the legal process.

The statement by MP Süleyman Bülbül, who supports Özel, "We will request a call committee. This committee will demand the signatures from the Headquarters and make a decision regarding the convention," shows that the convention agenda will be one of the party's main agenda items in the coming days.
