President Erdoğan and NATO Secretary General Rutte hold phone call

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan exchanged views on global and regional developments during a phone call with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. The discussion addressed key issues concerning NATO, particularly the developments following the intervention against Iran.

Erdoğan emphasized that the recent developments, which began with the interventions in Iran, are heading toward a geostrategic impasse, and he drew attention to the importance of the international community increasing its efforts to end this conflict. The President stated that NATO's contributions to Turkey's air defense during this period have once again demonstrated the alliance's solidarity and deterrence.

The efforts to bring the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia to a peaceful conclusion as soon as possible were also on the agenda. Erdoğan noted that diplomatic channels and peaceful initiatives must be maintained for a resolution.

Furthermore, Erdoğan celebrated the 77th anniversary of NATO and expressed his hope that the NATO Summit to be held in Ankara on July 7-8, 2026, will result in important decisions that will ensure the alliance is more resilient and effective against future challenges.
