A veiled criticism of Kılıçdaroğlu from President Erdoğan? 'We have not forgotten the collapse of the SSK and the banks'
At the anniversary event of the Court of Accounts, Erdoğan continued his criticisms of the past by bringing up the economic crises and the misuse of public resources that occurred in previous years.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in his speech at the ceremony held for the 164th anniversary of the Court of Accounts, emphasized the corruption and negligence in economic management that occurred in public institutions in the past. Recalling the years when the SSK (Social Security Institution) and banks suffered heavy losses, Erdoğan stated, "We all know and have not forgotten how the SSK was deliberately bankrupted, how the banks were hollowed out, and how the state treasury was siphoned off."
It was noted that these remarks were made particularly after Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's return to the CHP chairmanship by court order. In his speech, Erdoğan also touched upon the weaknesses in public financial management that existed before the AK Party government.
"FETÖ'S COST TO THE ECONOMY IS 350 BILLION DOLLARS"
In his speech, Erdoğan also pointed to the damage caused by FETÖ to the country's economy. Stating that "The cost of FETÖ to the Turkish economy is 350 billion dollars," Erdoğan noted that in addition to upholding the national will, they never turn a blind eye to the waste of public resources. Erdoğan said, "Every one of our 86 million citizens has a right to public property."
WARNING TO LOCAL ADMINISTRATIONS AND PUBLIC OFFICIALS
President Erdoğan also reacted to the scandals that have occurred in some local administrations, especially in recent times. Erdoğan underlined that all public employees, regardless of their duty or title, must use resources carefully. He included the following statements: "No matter what is written on their door, no public official can or should use it like their personal wallet. We cannot allow this. Especially the scandals centered on local administrations, which we have followed sometimes with astonishment and sometimes with shame in recent times, can never be excused. It is our duty to fight within the framework of law and legislation against those who see the nation's trust as spoils, whoever they may be. Do not forget that we are all responsible to our 86 million citizens who expect the taxes they pay to be transformed into the highest quality service."
EMPHASIS ON "CENTURY OF TURKIYE" FROM THE COURT OF ACCOUNTS
Touching upon the duties of the Court of Accounts at the ceremony, Erdoğan stated that the institution plays a critical role in the future of Turkiye. Erdoğan stated that they expect the Court of Accounts to contribute to the "Century of Turkiye" goals through its guidance activities while safeguarding the public's trust. Erdoğan continued with these words: "The need for reports to be prepared by our Court of Accounts, especially in the preparation of national strategies, while observing the administration's discretionary power, is increasing day by day. I believe that our Court of Accounts, which has the opportunity to see different institutions, processes, and methods at the same time, will continue to provide important services to our nation and state for many more years with a data-driven, system-based, and value-added approach."
