The investigation into Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, initiated upon the complaint of Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek, has been completed, and an indictment has been prepared. A prison sentence ranging from 2 years and 8 months to 7 years and 4 months, along with a political ban, has been requested for İmamoğlu on charges of "Threat," "Publicly insulting a public official due to their duty," and "Targeting individuals involved in counter-terrorism."

İmamoğlu will appear before the judge on April 11.

TRIAL TO BEGIN ON APRIL 11

The date for İmamoğlu's court appearance regarding the matter has been set. The trial of İmamoğlu will begin at the Istanbul 14th High Criminal Court on April 11 at 10:00 AM.


REQUEST FOR UP TO 7 YEARS AND 4 MONTHS IN PRISON

In the prepared indictment, it was requested that İmamoğlu be sentenced to between 2 years and 8 months and 7 years and 4 months in prison for the crimes of 'publicly insulting a public official due to their duty,' 'threat,' and 'targeting individuals involved in counter-terrorism.'


REQUEST FOR POLITICAL BAN

On the other hand, the indictment also requested the application of Article 53, Paragraph 1 of the Turkish Penal Code, which states: "As a legal consequence of a conviction for an intentional crime, a person shall be deprived of the right to undertake a permanent, fixed-term, or temporary public office; in this context, from membership in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, or from being employed in any civil service or duty subject to appointment or election provided by the state, province, municipality, village, or institutions and organizations under their supervision and control."
