Privatizations continue at full speed: 22-year term!

The AKP government continues its privatizations in the energy and maritime sectors, which are among Turkey's strategic production areas, without slowing down as of 2025. The Privatization Administration has published new tender announcements for the sale of the Soma A Thermal Power Plant, the Bozcaada Wind Power Plant (RES), and the Tekirdağ Çeşmeli Port. Attractive payment plans are being offered to domestic and foreign companies in these privatizations.

THERMAL POWER PLANT UP FOR SALE

The Soma A Thermal Power Plant, which has been included in the privatization program, is located on a total area of 91 thousand 399 square meters belonging to the Electricity Generation Corporation (EÜAŞ). While the temporary collateral for the tender has been set at 20 million liras, the final bid submission date has been set for February 10, 2026. In the tender, companies have the right to make cash or installment payments. For installment payments, 25 percent of the tender price will be paid in advance, and the remaining amount will be completed in 48 months with one payment per year. An annual interest rate of 30 percent will be applied to the installment amount. Furthermore, the tender will not be subject to the State Tender Law and will be exempt from taxes, duties, fees, and VAT. Foreign companies will also be able to participate in this tender.

Previously, a flue gas emission removal project using plasma technology had been carried out at the Soma A Thermal Power Plant by the TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center. The project was completed before the plant was put up for sale.

BOZCAADA RES PRIVATIZED AGAIN

The Bozcaada RES, which belongs to EÜAŞ, was established in 2000 and began to be operated by a private company. The plant, which was transferred to EÜAŞ in 2020, has now been included in the privatization program again. While the temporary collateral for the tender has been set at 30 million liras, the final bid date is February 18, 2026. This tender will also be conducted through the "bargaining procedure." The payment plan can be made with cash or installment options, similar to the Soma A Thermal Power Plant. For installment payments, a 35 percent down payment will be made, and the remaining amount will be paid in 48 months with one payment per year. Foreign companies will also be able to participate in this tender.

22-YEAR OPERATING RIGHT GRANTED FOR ÇEŞMELİ PORT

The Tekirdağ Çeşmeli Port Area, which belongs to the Turkish Maritime Enterprises (TDİ) and is known as the former NATO Reception Port, is being privatized by granting operating rights for a period of 45 years. The port had previously come to the agenda as a project that began construction in 2002 but remained unfinished. This area, which has been included in the privatization program, has a total area of 1.4 million square meters. The tender will be conducted based on the annual operating right fee, and payments will be made over 22 years. This tender will also be conducted through the "bargaining procedure." The tender, in which foreign companies can participate, will not be subject to the State Tender Law and will be exempt from taxes, duties, fees, and VAT.

PAYMENT PLANS IN TENDERS ATTRACT FOREIGN COMPANIES

All these privatizations, covering the Soma A Thermal Power Plant, the Bozcaada RES, and the Tekirdağ Çeşmeli Port, are offered with attractive payment terms for investors. These tenders, which attract the attention of large companies with cash or installment payment options, mark an important turning point in the strategic areas of the Turkish economy. Privatization transactions are carried out in a way that is exempt from all kinds of taxes, duties, fees, and VAT. This situation also facilitates the participation of foreign companies in the tenders.
