Pro-government media reports: A study office has been prepared for Öcalan

An important arrangement is being implemented at İmralı Prison. Within the scope of the process carried out in Turkey under the goal of a 'Terror-Free Turkey,' certain changes are being applied to the conditions under which PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan is being held.

According to a report by Türkiye newspaper, it has been learned that a new study area is being prepared within the prison in this direction and that this area has been allocated for Öcalan's use.

RENOVATIONS AND NEW ARRANGEMENTS ON İMRALI

It was stated that with the renovation work being carried out in one of the main buildings on the prison campus, a section separated by a wall will be converted into a study office and basic needs will be met.

Officials emphasized that this development only covers the use of the existing structure on İmralı; there is no consideration of building a new villa or a different residence on the island.

SIGNAL OF FLEXIBILITY IN COMMUNICATION CHANNELS

Officials evaluating the issue within the government noted that Abdullah Öcalan does not want to leave the island due to 'security risks' and has clearly expressed this point in his meetings with the state. Security sources also underlined that even if there were an arrangement regarding the 'right to hope' or the execution of the sentence, it is out of the question for Öcalan to leave İmralı.

AKP figures provided information stating, “There is currently no change in Öcalan’s legal status on our agenda. Only some conveniences have been provided in his living conditions on İmralı. If the process progresses, it may be possible to expand communication channels. In line with the demands of the DEM Party, it may be possible for different segments—such as journalists and academics—to meet with Öcalan in the coming days.”
