Promising honesty, cooperation, and peace: Kozan's first female mukhtar elected

Hatice Akkaya, who returned to her village 4 years ago from Çanakkale with her miner husband and decided to run for mukhtar after seeing the shortcomings in her neighborhood, has achieved a first.

Succeeding in becoming the first female mukhtar of Kozan's rural neighborhoods, Hatice Akkaya defeated her opponent by promising her neighbors honesty, cooperation, and peace in the neighborhood.

In Velicanlı Neighborhood, where there are 216 voters and 191 went to the polls, Hatice Akkaya defeated her opponent Ferhat Yıldırım, who had been the mukhtar for 2 terms, by receiving 99 votes. Expressing that she was very excited, she said she aimed to provide good services to her neighborhood.

Hatice Akkaya, a married mother of 3, also stated that they are 10 sisters and said, "When my husband retired, we came to our village from Çanakkale. I became a candidate so that everything in the village would be good and there would be no discrimination. The election campaign was different; I had a lot of support from women. My 10 sisters helped and supported me. I received 99 votes. I am very excited. It is a beautiful thing. I have no promises to the villagers other than honesty and that I will not discriminate. Just as the Black Sea has Sumela, we have the Sin Monastery here. I will also strive for it to be brought into tourism" she said.

Medine Çoban, who came to congratulate the female mukhtar, said, "May God be pleased with everyone who voted. May it be auspicious. We are happy that there is a female mukhtar. Let there be unity and solidarity" she said.
