Reaction to detentions from Tudem Publishing Group! 'Hear the voice of the people'

As protests continue following the operations targeting Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and various municipalities, police conducted house raids in Istanbul and Izmir in the early hours of the morning. A large number of people were detained.

JOURNALISTS ALSO DETAINED

According to a subsequent statement by DİSK Basın-İş, those detained in this morning's operations include NOW reporter Ali Onur Tosun, photojournalist Bülent Kılıç, journalist Zeynep Kuray, AFP reporter Yasin Akgül, journalist Hayri Tunç, IBB photojournalist Kurtuluş Arı, Sendika.org reporter Zişan Gür, former Cumhuriyet reporter Gökhan Kam, photojournalist Murat Kocabaş in Izmir, and BirGün columnist Barış İnce. 

REACTION FROM TUDEM

Tudem Publishing Group reacted to the detentions that took place following the judicial operation.

In the statement, which emphasized that arbitrary detentions—particularly those of their colleague Barış İnce and his wife Sevil İnce—must come to an end, it was stated:

"The way young people and the public have been expressing their academic and democratic concerns about the future since March 19, by exercising their constitutional rights, should be read well by all segments of society. Young people want to study and graduate from their universities in a democratic and free country without worrying about their diplomas. They do not accept the cancellation of their professors' and elected officials' diplomas. They are anxious about the future and are expressing their reactions because they have no faith left in the law. The public does not accept the detention of elected officials while ignoring the presumption of innocence."

The statement also included the following expressions:

"According to Article 34 of our Constitution, 'Everyone has the right to hold unarmed and peaceful meetings and demonstration marches without prior permission.' We expect law enforcement to immediately stop the violence they are inflicting on the public and young people who are exercising this right. We demand an end to the arbitrary detentions, especially those of our colleague Barış İnce and his wife Sevil İnce, and that these individuals be released. Hear the youth, hear the voice of the people."
