Removed from candidacy: IYI Party member Birol Büyüköztürk resigns

After Çukurova Mayor Soner Çetin resigned from the CHP and was nominated by the IYI Party, Birol Büyüköztürk, who was removed from his candidacy for Çukurova Mayor, announced that he has resigned from the IYI Party.

Büyüköztürk stated, "Following the unfortunate and offensive incident I was subjected to, and as a result of discussions with my immediate family, extended family, and close friends—who are always where I am and have made great sacrifices for me—we reached a consensus that it is very difficult for our family and kin to move past this event. Therefore, we decided that leaving the IYI Party is necessary and appropriate."

In a statement made on social media, Büyüköztürk noted that his candidacy was taken away in an 'offensive' manner and that he is resigning for the honor of his family.

"I WISH SUCCESS TO THOSE WHO HAVE GIVEN THEIR HEARTS TO THE IYI PARTY"

Reminding of the roles he previously held within the party, Büyüköztürk's post is as follows:

Therefore, we decided that leaving the IYI Party is necessary and appropriate. The beautiful memories and precious friendships I experienced during my time as Regional Representative, Member of the Founders' Board, and Provincial Chair in the Meral Akşener movement, which began with 'Come on Sister' (Haydi Abla), will remain with me. I wish success to the IYI Party and those who have given their hearts to it... Ultimately, I am sharing with the public that I have left the IYI Party, and I express my gratitude to all my friends who have walked this path with us in fairness until today. It should be known that I have to do this for 'the honor of myself, my family, and my kin.' May you be entrusted to God. With my deepest regards and respects..."
