Research commission to be established in the Turkish Parliament for artificial intelligence

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) will establish a research commission to discuss artificial intelligence on the Parliament's agenda. While preparations for the new legislative term continue in the TBMM, which is in recess until October 1, it has been decided to establish a commission to address the issue of artificial intelligence, in addition to the legislative proposals planned to be discussed during the 29th legislative term.

The Artificial Intelligence Research Commission will include members of parliament from every party. The commission will examine the current status of artificial intelligence programs, the reliability of these programs, their compliance with transparency principles, measures for the protection of personal data, and user responsibilities.

The establishment of the commission was first brought to the agenda by TBMM Digital Channels Commission Chairman and AKP Hatay Deputy Hüseyin Yayman, who stated during a meeting where Google officials gave a presentation that "there are efforts underway to establish a research commission in Parliament regarding artificial intelligence."

The Research Commission will gather information by inviting public institutions and organizations, representatives of artificial intelligence companies in Turkey, academics, IT experts, and other relevant experts to its meetings. The commission will work for a specific period and will prepare a report on artificial intelligence as a result of its completed work. Whether the prepared report will turn into a legislative proposal will be determined in the future process.
