Resignation with 'self-criticism' in İYİ Party

İYİ Party Karabük Provincial Chair Recep Yılmaz announced his resignation from his post during a press conference he held.

Yılmaz stated, “Until the general assembly in January 2023, I worked with all the dedication I could for this noble cause; as a result of these efforts, I was nominated for the provincial chairmanship and announced my candidacy. Before reaching the general assembly stage, I quickly completed the process by first holding delegate elections and then district congresses. Subsequently, I was elected as the İYİ Party Karabük provincial chair by a clear margin of votes in the provincial congress held on January 8, 2023.”

Stating that he began his duty by quickly forming his board of directors, Yılmaz said, “Despite the political statements that were implemented correctly according to some and incorrectly according to others at that time, we set out with 14 parliamentary candidates for the May 14-28, 2023 Presidential and 28th term parliamentary elections. We explained, or tried to explain, the İYİ Party to all my fellow citizens in Karabük with our 3 parliamentary candidates determined by the headquarters.

During this process, despite our party being undermined by certain malicious circles and despite resignations, we worked with superior effort for the election together with our 3 candidates and my board of directors. Unfortunately, we could not achieve the desired success as a result of the mistakes made by our headquarters in the elections,” he said.

“We began preparing for the March 31, 2024 Local Government elections with all our speed,” Yılmaz said, adding, “Again, due to the fact that there were those who betrayed our party for personal scores, interests, and benefits among us, and because of the candidates determined by our headquarters without consultation, asking, or questioning, we could not achieve the desired success in these mayoral elections either.”

"I AM OF THE OPINION THAT I DID A GOOD JOB"

Yılmaz said, “With the election of the new Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu at our party's extraordinary congress held on April 27, 2024, our party has gained a new momentum.

I am of the opinion that, despite having no political experience regarding the issues I briefly mentioned above, I did a good job together with my administration despite the betrayals from inside and outside. Both during the period when our party's vote rates rose to 15-18 percent and when they fell to 3 percent, all my fellow citizens in Karabük and my fellow party members saw that I stood by our cause and our party and was no one's man,” he said.

Stating that he will continue his political struggle, Yılmaz said, “This is not a separation, this is not a farewell. While it is an expression of a rebirth, this is a changing of the guard.

My fellow citizens of Karabük and my fellow party members, when I paid a congratulatory visit to our Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu and our GİK members after the extraordinary congress on April 27, 2024, after giving a general briefing and presentation about our organization to our Organization Chair Hasan Toktaş, I stated that I did not want to take part in the new organization to be formed and that I wanted to leave my post; however, I am resigning from the İYİ Party Karabük Provincial Chairmanship due to the necessity I see,” he included in his statements.
