The Republican People's Party (CHP) emerged victorious in the March 31 Local Elections, receiving 37.7 percent of the vote. CHP leader Özgür Özel, who won the chairmanship election against Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu at the party congress in November 2023, successfully passed his first test, bringing his party to the position of the leading party across Turkey for the first time in 47 years.

While 'early election' debates began following the local elections, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel had stated, "I will not initiate an early election debate."
