Sale of S-400 systems had been on the agenda: Statement from Minister Fidan

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, in his statements to the international press following the 2026 NATO Summit, touched upon the details of the process regarding Turkey's sale of S-400 air defense systems to another country. Responding to questions on the subject, Fidan said, "This is an ongoing process, and discussions and negotiations are taking place within the government. There must also be a healthy discussion with the Russians because, at the moment, I cannot name any country, process, or type of solution, because as I said, there is political will between the two presidents. Therefore, Russia must also be a part of the discussions because the S-400s were purchased from there."

UNCERTAINTY IN THE PROCESS CONTINUES

It was noted in Fidan's statements that the potential new destination for the S-400 systems has not been clarified. Although there have been claims that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a potential buyer for this sale, it has not yet been finalized which country the negotiations are being conducted with.

Foreign Minister Fidan stated that a process involving all parties is underway regarding the sale of the S-400s, indicating that the decision is not solely dependent on Turkish authorities or a single foreign actor.
