Şamil Tayyar issues warning on pensions and elections: 'The price will be heavy'

With the latest regulation accepted by the Planning and Budget Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), a decision was made to increase the lowest monthly pension for SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees from 20,000 liras to 23,552 liras. While the regulation closely concerns millions of retirees, remarkable assessments came from former AK Party deputy Şamil Tayyar.

Making evaluations on the subject via his social media account, Tayyar summarized the content of the salary increase with the words: "The lowest pension for SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees has been raised from 20,000 liras to 23,552 liras. The proposal regarding the new monthly pension has been accepted in the TBMM Planning and Budget Committee."

"ECONOMIC POLICY MAY EASE AFTER 2027"

Touching upon the economy, Şamil Tayyar shared his views on the future of the tight monetary policies being implemented: "As far as I can see, the tight monetary policy that has been implemented for 3 years will be eased starting from 2027. It is highly probable that steps to relieve every segment of society will be implemented periodically in the new year. The election date is also foreseen as April 2028. So far, so good."

"INSUFFICIENT RAISE WILL HAVE A POLITICAL PRICE"

Emphasizing that the raises to be made to pensions in the new year will be decisive for millions of retirees, Tayyar stated that otherwise, it could lead to serious political consequences. Tayyar used the expressions, "If pensions are determined with the same mindset in the new year, it would mean declaring 'war on retirees' numbering over 17 million. No political party can win such a war."

Continuing his words by warning his own party, Tayyar stated, "If a proper raise is not made to pensions after the new year, it will mean war has been declared on retirees. No political party can withstand this."

Tayyar's statements are being evaluated as important signals regarding both the effects that the new regulation on pensions will create in society and the approaching election process.
