Shocking details behind the Yahşihan crisis and resignations in the AKP!
Nefes newspaper columnist Nuray Babacan wrote about the behind-the-scenes of the recent operations within the AKP. According to the report, corruption allegations in the Yahşihan Municipality and the resignations of provincial chairs were rapidly set in motion following files being taken to the Palace.
Recent operations carried out within the AKP are drawing attention. The process that resulted in the arrest of Mayor Ahmet Sungur in the Yahşihan district of Kırıkkale has found wide resonance in party corridors. According to Nefes newspaper columnist Nuray Babacan, the operation in Yahşihan was put into action within 8 hours following a meeting at the Palace.
Allegedly, Yahşihan, which stands out for its proximity to Ankara and industrial investments, has turned into a center of rent-seeking in recent years. In her article titled "The investigation that went to the Palace!", Babacan included the following statements: “A significant increase has been observed in land purchases within the borders of Yahşihan by many names, ranging from Ankara businessmen and contractors to AKP bureaucrats and AKP politicians.”
Behind the Yahşihan operation, allegations of irregular land swaps stand out. According to the claim included in Babacan's article, “lands bought cheaply outside the city were later shown as ‘forest land’ and exchanged for lands in the city center.” Through this method, worthless lands were suddenly made available for zoning.
BEŞİR ATALAY HAD REQUESTED SUNGUR'S EXPULSION
The arrested Mayor Ahmet Sungur has a long history in the AKP. Babacan wrote that in 2014, the then-Kırıkkale Deputy Beşir Atalay had attempted to have Sungur expelled from the party, but this attempt was “blocked by someone.”
In addition to the developments in Yahşihan, a wave of resignations regarding provincial chairs in the AKP is also drawing attention. Nuray Babacan noted that this change in the organizations began with reports sent to the AKP Organization Presidency and stated that it is interpreted as “the new chair establishing their own team.” Stating that some provincial chairs were forced to resign in line with reports prepared by party inspectors, Babacan mentioned in her article that topics such as “problems with deputies, tension with the governorship, loss of votes, and weakening ties with the organization” stand out among the reasons for the dismissals.
