Signal for presidential candidacy: Tanju Özcan responds to Özgür Özel's 'we have 2 strikers' statement

Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan has joined the debate over who the opposition's potential presidential candidate will be. Özcan said, "I would not hesitate to run if necessary."

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel had previously pointed to Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş regarding his party's presidential candidate, stating, "We have 2 strikers."

A response to these words from Özel came from CHP Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan.

Speaking during a live broadcast on Tv100, Özcan said, "I would not hesitate to collect 100,000 signatures and run if necessary, but I hope it won't be necessary."

Responding to the words of former AKP deputy Ali Turan, who said, "You have no chance of being a presidential candidate, Mr. Mayor," Özcan used the following expressions:

"A team does not consist of just 2 strikers. It has a number 6, a number 8, and a goalkeeper. If necessary, I would not hesitate to collect 100,000 signatures and run, but I hope it won't be necessary. If it becomes necessary, I would not hesitate to take responsibility.

If the opposition nominates someone who truly cannot govern this country or someone with a past that I would view with hesitation, in that case, I would consider it a historical duty and try to do so."
