Önder, who had been receiving hospital treatment for 18 days, passed away yesterday due to 'multiple organ failure.' Before the funeral, a memorial ceremony was organized for Sırrı Süreyya at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM). A suspect attacked Özel by punching him while he was attending the ceremony held at the AKM today.

Yerlikaya had announced that the suspect was apprehended. The Ministry of Interior reported that the attacker had previously killed his two children and had been released on parole.

Yerlikaya's latest statement on the matter on X is as follows:

"Those who make provocative posts on social media following the heinous attack on CHP Chairman Mr. Özgür Özel are being meticulously tracked by our virtual patrols.

As with every attempt targeting the peace and unity of our nation, we will identify those who make criminal posts regarding this incident one by one and bring them to justice."
