Statement from DEM Party regarding the third meeting of the resolution commission

The National Solidarity, Fraternity and Democracy Commission, established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) within the scope of the new resolution process, held its third meeting yesterday (August 13).

During this meeting, the commission's operations and objectives were discussed. The DEM Party members of the commission, Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, Meral Danış Beştaş, Hakkı Saruhan Oluç, Celal Fırat, and Cengiz Çiçek, issued a joint statement following the meeting.

The statement, which drew attention to the topics of the latest meeting, noted the following:

"The 'National Solidarity, Fraternity and Democracy Commission' established in Parliament completed its third meeting yesterday. In this meeting, views regarding the function, purpose, and operation of the commission were expressed comprehensively.

The development and maturation of a democratic ground for a democratic and peaceful solution to the Kurdish issue depend on the work of this commission, which must fulfill the historical role incumbent upon Parliament and make good use of time in every sense.

Based on all discussions and evaluations, we can say that the commission continues its work with a perspective that considers the sensitivities of all segments of society. We would like to emphasize that the parties providing members to the commission are faced with a historical responsibility to build societal consensus. Achieving social peace depends on the steps taken being inclusive and being carried out from a position that recognizes the needs of the process. It is essential to act carefully and sensitively without falling into the sterility of 'you versus me' politics.

'THE RESPONSIBILITY TO BUILD A COMMON FUTURE TOGETHER BELONGS TO US ALL'

Next week, on Tuesday and Wednesday, hearings will be held within the scope of a pool of names and institutions to be created through the collaboration of the parties providing members to the commission. All segments that lost their lives, were victimized, or were negatively affected throughout the conflict process will be heard by the commission. At the same time, receiving the views and suggestions of legal and academic circles with expertise on the legal and political ground to be created for the resolution of conflict processes will be a step that will facilitate the commission's work.

Following these hearings, the commission will carry out its work on legal regulations that need to be made within the scope of the process, including democratic integration. It is of great importance to address proposals regarding legal regulations that aim for democratization and are needed by the process, and to conclude them through comprehensive discussion. The power of democratic politics and social peace can only be achieved in this way.

The responsibility to strengthen fraternity on the basis of equality at both local and regional levels, to establish the law of fraternity, and to build a common future together belongs to us all. In this context, we maintain our belief that both our party and the other parties involved in the commission will show the necessary inclusivity, care, and courage required by the process."
