Statement from Gelecek and Saadet on the 'judicial crisis': There is a coup against our legal order

The 3rd Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation ruled against complying with the Constitutional Court (AYM) decision that found a violation of rights regarding imprisoned Member of Parliament Can Atalay, and filed a criminal complaint against the members of the Constitutional Court.

Saadet Party Chairman Karamollaoğlu and Gelecek Party Chairman Davutoğlu held a press conference at the TBMM regarding the Court of Cassation's criminal complaint against the AYM members.

Highlights from Davutoğlu's remarks:

"There is a coup against our legal order. The right to individual application is a part of human rights. The state order has its traditions. Have we ever seen the decisions of the Constitution being debated throughout our democratic history? The reason for this is to completely eliminate judicial independence and render the right to individual application meaningless.

We stand with the members of the AYM. We are determined to act with all parties and NGOs to protect democratic values. I ask the President of the Court of Cassation: Does the decision taken by the 3rd Chamber of the Court of Cassation represent the entire institution?

Demonstrating is a constitutional right; we will resort to it if necessary. We hope that it will not be necessary.

Some are trying to make authoritarian rule permanent by infiltrating the state through AKP masses."
