Statement from the Ministry of National Defense on Gaza and Cyprus

Ministry of National Defense (MSB) Spokesperson Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk stated that they support all initiatives aimed at ending the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Speaking at a press conference held at the Boğaz Martyrs' Cemetery in Kyrenia, Aktürk emphasized that they will continue to contribute to solutions that the parties will accept in order to ensure a fair and lasting peace.

Touching upon the Cyprus issue, Aktürk stated that the recognition of the sovereign equality and international status of the Turkish Cypriot people is the only solution. Stating that they will take the necessary measures against the destabilizing activities of the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus (GCASC), Aktürk reiterated Turkey's determination to protect its rights in the Mediterranean.

TURKEY'S ROLE IN AFRICA AND KOSOVO

Aktürk stated that the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) contribute to peace and stability around the world. He said that the Turkish unit, which has taken over the NATO mission in Kosovo, will operate within the framework of international responsibilities. He also announced that, upon the request of Senegal, a maritime patrol aircraft has been sent to Dakar, where search and rescue training will be provided.

COUNTER-TERRORISM AND BORDER SECURITY

Aktürk also shared the successes achieved in counter-terrorism operations. He stated that shelters belonging to terrorists were destroyed within the scope of the Claw-Lock operations and that the length of tunnels in Syria has reached 642 kilometers. In addition, regarding border security, he reported that 7 thousand 177 people have been caught while attempting illegal crossings since the beginning of the year.

SYRIA AND REGIONAL DEVELOPMENTS

Touching upon developments in Syria, Aktürk stated that the issue of the integration of the SDF into the Syrian interim government is being followed closely. He expressed that cooperation between Turkey and Iran on counter-terrorism and border security issues has been discussed.

Finally, he emphasized that a bomb-laden unmanned maritime vehicle detected off the coast of Trabzon was destroyed and that citizens should be careful about suspicious objects. He also stated that the necessary responses have been given to the activities of the GCASC in maritime jurisdiction areas.
