Statement from the Palace on Syria and Assad: 'Conditions for voluntary return have been met'
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz emphasized that the establishment of a safe and stable environment following the collapse of the Baath regime in Syria is the fundamental condition for the voluntary return of Syrian refugees.
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz stated the following regarding the collapse of the Baath regime in Syria: "With the establishment of a safe and economically viable environment in Syria, the honorable, safe, and voluntary return of our Syrian brothers and sisters, who have lived away from their homeland for years, will also be ensured."
In a statement on his social media account, Yılmaz noted that Syria belongs to the Syrians and that the Syrian people have begun a new era following the great suffering they have endured and the historic struggle they have waged.
Pointing out that it is extremely important for the transition process to a new regime that reflects the will of the Syrian people to function healthily, Yılmaz emphasized that an inclusive and constructive approach, rather than a narrow and confrontational one, must be adopted.
Drawing attention to the necessity for non-regional powers to refrain from actions that would harm the stability of Syria, which has already suffered enough, and for the international community and institutions to support the reconstruction process, Yılmaz noted the following:
"I wish for the success of the political and economic restructuring process for the unity, stability, and peace of the Syrian people in all its elements. While preserving Syria's territorial integrity and sovereignty, the necessary conditions must be rapidly created for Syrian citizens of all religions, sects, and ethnic identities to live together in peace.
With the establishment of a safe and economically viable environment in Syria, the honorable, safe, and voluntary return of our Syrian brothers and sisters, who have lived away from their homeland for years, will also be ensured. In this new era, eliminating the threats posed by terrorist organizations to our country is among our most important priorities. I believe that our Syrian Kurdish brothers and sisters will be freed from the tutelage and oppression of the terrorist organization and will attain a peaceful environment within the integrity of Syria."
WE WILL STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE SYRIAN PEOPLE
Underlining that the Republic of Turkey will continue to closely monitor developments and work for the peace, stability, and prosperity of the region, Yılmaz stated, "Just as we did in their most difficult times, we will stand in solidarity with the entire brotherly Syrian people today and tomorrow."
In his statement, Yılmaz recalled the words of President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan: "We want to see a Syria where tranquility prevails, where peace prevails, where no one is excluded regardless of whether they are Arab, Turkmen, Kurd, Alevi, Sunni, Nusayri, or Christian, where no one's rights and freedoms are violated, where no one is persecuted, and where different identities live side by side in peace. We hope and wish that we will see such a Syria in the very near future."
