Students protesting at education summit detained

At the Turkey Century Vocational and Technical Education Summit held in Istanbul, 17 students who are members of the Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) were detained after protesting Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin. TİP called for the release of these students and the abolition of the Vocational Training Centers (MESEM) program.

In a statement issued by TİP, it was stated, "Currently, 17 of our young comrades are being held in detention because they did not remain silent about the deaths of their fellow students. All the youths taken to the Istanbul Police Headquarters in Vatan should be released immediately, and the monstrous MESEM system should be canceled." The statement emphasized that the MESEM program puts young people in danger and that defending this system is unacceptable.

The protest took place at the summit attended by Minister Tekin, and the students stated that they wanted to draw attention to the situation by pointing out that the MESEM program exposes young people to workplace accidents. TİP argues that such practices endanger the lives of young people and must be terminated immediately.
