The Ankara 36th Regional Court of Justice, in a ruling on what is publicly known as the "absolute nullity case," declared that all recent congresses of the Republican People's Party (CHP), starting with the 38th Ordinary Congress held on November 4-5, 2023, are invalid. As a result of the decision uploaded to the National Judiciary Informatics System (UYAP), the terms of current CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and party bodies have been terminated. With this development, party leadership has reverted to former chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.

"WE DO NOT RECOGNIZE THE DECISION, WE WILL RESIST"

Following the ruling, the CHP Central Executive Board (MYK) held an extraordinary meeting to determine a roadmap. Appearing before cameras after the meeting, Özgür Özel stated that they do not recognize the court's decision and that they will defend the democratic will of his party. Özel's remarks, in which he emphasized that they would resist the decision in question, found support among the party's grassroots.
