Support from AKP's Şahin for Erdoğan's 50+1 statement
AK Party Secretary General Fatih Şahin made statements regarding the 50+1 requirement applied in presidential elections.
Following President Erdoğan, a statement regarding the 50+1 requirement has also come from AKP Secretary General Fatih Şahin.
In a statement on his social media account, Şahin stated that the "absolute majority," or in other words the "50+1" requirement sought for presidential elections, is not an indispensable element of the Presidential Government System.
''IT SHOULD BE REVIEWED AT THE CONSTITUTIONAL LEVEL''
Pointing out that different ratios are applied in many democratic countries around the world, Şahin used the following expressions:
"What has been experienced on the political scene since this regulation came into effect has revealed that this requirement has become a pressure element on the political institution and the national will, has damaged the natural course of politics, and has created a fragmented picture prone to instability.
The election of the candidate who receives the most votes will ensure that the election race is more competitive, organic, and free from pressures and artificiality, and in terms of its results, it will be healthier and in the interest of our country. Those who choose not politics and transparency, but non-politics and secret and dark bargains conducted behind closed doors, have turned the 'absolute majority/50+1' requirement into a Sword of Damocles hanging over the system and the political institution. For these reasons, it is inevitable that the issue be reviewed at the constitutional level."

Indeed, different ratios are applied in many democratic countries of the world.
Since the entry into force of this regulation…
WHAT HAD ERDOĞAN SAID?
President Erdoğan had used the expressions: ''It would be appropriate. If the one who gets the majority is elected, the Presidential election would also be quick, it wouldn't be a hassle, and it wouldn't lead to wrong paths. The current 50+1 obligation leads parties to wrong paths. It is unclear whose hand is in whose pocket. There is the six-party table, there is the sixteen-party table..''News Source: 12punto
