Support from DEM Party for Bahçeli's 'peace' warning! 'Do not wait, move forward'

Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları made statements regarding the agenda at her party's group meeting. Hatimoğulları began her speech by saying, "I once again commemorate our dear comrade Sırrı with love and gratitude. And I reiterate our promise of peace to him once again in your presence."

Highlights from Hatimoğulları's speech are as follows:

"The Middle East smells of gunpowder once again. The Israel-Iran war is a regional war. Unfortunately, the global pulse is not beating to the rhythm of peace, but to the frantic tempo of war. They are all preparing the ground for war and fueling it. The truth is that everything is viewed through the lens of security. Yet, this means more poverty and hunger.

Starting with the class divides of neoliberalism, economic collapse, armament, and the race for ecological collapse; power balances, trade wars, and ethnic-sectarian tensions... They are all preparing the ground for war, fueling the war.

Look, do you know what the G7 Summit and NATO's demands for increased military spending show us? These are developments that concern not only Turkey and the Middle East, but the entire world. The labor of Ahmed, Fatima, Rojda, Hans, Robert—that is, all peoples—is being transferred directly to war budgets.

All of this is being done through the game played by imperialist powers on the geopolitical chessboard. Civilian citizens pay, we pay, the peoples pay. They try to normalize war for us with masks of security, but no, it is not normal. The horror of war is being tried to be made ordinary in our eyes. It is being tried to be normalized in our minds and souls. We do not accept the war and the mentality that burns and destroys everything, and we will not accept it. We must put a stop to this madness.

The antidote to this is the struggle against imperialism. We, the peoples, are creditors to imperialism, and when we collect this debt, we can stop these wars and live in peace and tranquility. We used to read about these experiences in dystopias. Now, dystopias are becoming reality. The Iran-Israel war shows us this.

I underline this with thick lines: The lack of democracy at home is more dangerous than the enemy abroad. A policy that sanctifies equal citizenship and places equality of rights, justice, and freedom at its foundation will be the antidote to this system.

The democratic nation solution does not seek answers in weapons and blood. A democratic nation is a model of common life established with equal law, where multi-identity, multi-cultural, and multi-faith peoples can freely determine their own destiny. It is the implementation of this very understanding that will save us and the Middle East. Whatever the cost, we will never give up on saying democratic nation, democratic society, and building it. We will surely gift peace to these lands.

"BAHÇELİ'S WARNINGS ARE IMPORTANT"

Mr. Bahçeli's warnings that the process must proceed quickly and carefully are important. We understand once again that a country that cannot institutionalize its own internal democracy will suffer very heavy wounds from global storms. Everyone is providing important support to this process as much as they can. At this turning point, developments that are in the interest of the peoples cannot be left in limbo! Historical opportunities sometimes come once a century. We want to shake off the residue of a century-long wait from our shoulders. History tells us, "Do not wait, move forward!" As we waited, we lost; as we waited, the wounds deepened; as we waited, opportunities flew away.

STATEMENT ON İMAMOĞLU

Last week, we visited the prisoners in Silivri. They all send their greetings and love to you. And they expressed that they are very hopeful for peace. Look, we discussed many topics with Mr. İmamoğlu. İmamoğlu said, "The most positive thing in all this negative trend is that we are talking about peace."
