Support for the resistance of the 135 workers, who were fired by their employer, Polonez, via a single SMS after joining the Tekgıda-İş Union, has also come from Haluk Levent. Songs were sung together, games were played, and slogans were chanted.
Speaking at the protest site, Levent gave the message, "I am starting a dialogue with the employer as of Monday. We will try to do everything in our power. We succeeded at Migros, and we will succeed here too."
WHAT HAPPENED?
On August 19, 13 workers who joined the Tekgıda-İş Union were fired; workers stopped production at the factory to support their colleagues. Upon this, the employer fired dozens of workers via an SMS without providing a justification, claiming they had committed disgraceful acts. Thus, the number of those fired reached 135.
During this process, the workers also faced harsh intervention from law enforcement, and some workers were injured. Finally, on July 28, seeing that their protest areas were blockaded by law enforcement, they achieved success by keeping watch in front of the Çatalca District Governorship until morning.
