Surprising defense in IMM file: Şahin, found with drugs in his home, said 'I am an AKP member'

New details have emerged regarding Mehmet Şahin, the owner of Abat Sağlık Hizmetleri Sanayi Ticaret Limited Şirketi, which operates in Beylikdüzü, as part of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM).

Şahin, who is also stated to operate as a real estate consultant, was detained within the scope of the investigation, and narcotic substances were seized during a search of his home.

NAME ENTERED THE FILE IN IMM INVESTIGATION

It was learned that Mehmet Şahin's name entered the file due to his phone conversations with contractor Adem Soytekin, who benefited from the "effective remorse" provisions. It was stated that these conversations of Şahin were included in the second-wave operation file targeting the IMM.

On April 27, 2025, teams from the Financial Crimes Investigation Bureau conducted searches at Şahin's residence in Büyükçekmece, Istanbul, and at his clinic in Beylikdüzü.

NARCOTIC SUBSTANCES SEIZED AT HOME

During the search of Mehmet Şahin's home in Büyükçekmece, who is listed as a "suspect" in the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 11.33 grams of narcotic substances and 4 ready-to-smoke items, weighing a total of 5.30 grams and known as "cigaralık," were seized.

In addition to the seized substances, it was noted that a large amount of foreign currency and Turkish lira banknotes, as well as licensed and unlicensed firearms, were also found.

ITEMS SEIZED DURING THE SEARCH WERE LISTED ONE BY ONE

It was reported that the materials seized during the search of Şahin's home were recorded in the official reports as follows:

1,220 pieces of 200 TL banknotes

1,000 pieces of 100 Euro banknotes

500 pieces of 50 Euro banknotes

100 pieces of 50 Euro banknotes

Rossi brand shotgun

A pistol marked 'Made in Germany', a magazine, and 6 cartridges

11.33 grams of narcotic substance

4 units of narcotic substance ready for use, totaling 5.30 grams

It was reported that the materials in question were seized in accordance with the decision of the Istanbul 9th Criminal Judgeship of Peace, numbered 2025/4925 D. İş.

In his statement regarding the phone calls with Adem Soytekin, which led to his inclusion in the investigation, Mehmet Şahin stated that the conversations were based on personal friendship rather than commercial interests.

In his statement to the prosecutor's office on April 27, 2025, Şahin said that there was a debt exchange between him and Soytekin, and that this relationship was based on a 15-year friendship. Acknowledging that the HTS records belonged to him, Şahin stated that the calls were not made within the scope of any commercial activity.

REFERENCED THE BÜYÜKÇEKMECE FILE

Şahin argued that the conversations mentioned in the phone records were related to a separate investigation conducted by the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. He stated that he heard Adem Soytekin's name in the context of problems he experienced regarding an apartment he purchased from Muscan Construction and that he called him to provide information.

HE SAID, 'I CANNOT HAVE ANY CONNECTION WITH THE IMM OR THE CHP'

According to a report by Gazete Pencere, Mehmet Şahin also emphasized his political preference in his defense. Stating that he actively supported the AK Party's Büyükçekmece mayoral candidate, Recep Erol, in the 2024 local elections, Şahin said he used his official vehicle and office as part of this support.

In his statement, Şahin said, 'I am an AKP member. I cannot have any connection, near or far, with the IMM or the CHP.'

'THE DRUGS ARE NOT MINE' CLAIM

Giving a new statement to the prosecutor's office on April 29, 2025, Şahin stated that the narcotic substances seized in his home were being processed under a separate file at the police station.

Claiming that the substances in question did not belong to him, Şahin said, 'It is a substance consumed by a friend who came to my house as a guest.'
