Switched to AKP and renovated his office: Atatürk portrait downsized

The changes made to the office of Keçiören Mayor Mesut Özarslan, who joined the ranks of the AKP after resigning from the CHP, have come to the public's attention.

It was observed that Özarslan, who kissed the hand of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and had his party pin attached during the ceremony marking his entry into the AKP, also updated the visuals in his office following his party switch.

A SMALLER PORTRAIT REPLACED THE ATATÜRK PORTRAIT

According to reports by Sözcü, Özarslan displayed a large portrait of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk wearing a kalpak in his office during the period when he was a member of the CHP and served as an independent.

With the changes made, it was observed that the portrait in question was removed and replaced with a smaller Atatürk portrait. It was noted that Özarslan also added a portrait of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan next to this portrait.

ÖZGÜR ÖZEL'S WORDS ARE BACK ON THE AGENDA

The message sent by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel following Mesut Özarslan's resignation from the CHP has also returned to the agenda.

In his message, Özel had used the following expressions:

"I have no business with thieves or the corrupt; the AK Party does. I am ashamed of myself for buying you coffee, for listening to you, and for treating you like a human being. You have found the place you deserve; you have taken refuge with those who called you a thief. You are where you belong."

HIS OLD POST ABOUT ERDOĞAN ALSO SURFACED

Mesut Özarslan's 2019 social media post regarding President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was also recalled.

In the post in question, Özarslan had stated, "Buying four Mercedes vehicles for the Presidential office for 80 million TL is a disregard for the rights of orphans whose needs have not yet been met. If these vehicles are not returned, I do not forgive the President for my share."

It was stated that the post in question was deleted on February 22, 2026.
