Tanju Özcan announces his new proposal regarding refugees

Tanju Özcan, who is running for re-election in Bolu, has previously made headlines with his policies toward refugees. Appearing on a live broadcast on Sözcü TV, Özcan announced his new proposal, stating, "I am no longer saying go to Syria or anything like that..."

Stating that he had previously focused on more individual solutions, Özcan said he has changed his rhetoric moving forward and made the following statement:

"I am no longer saying go to Syria... I told Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu before the election. Let us unilaterally withdraw from the Readmission Agreement, which is the most dire agreement signed since the Treaty of Sèvres.

Whether they return to Syria, return to Germany, or go to Greece, let them go.

How many more years are we going to look after them? It is as if we have a very stable economy. We cannot give a raise to retirees, yet we help refugees in every way. Enough is enough. This needs to be stopped."

ÖZCAN'S STATEMENT ON THE DEM PARTY

Regarding the question of cooperation with the DEM Party, he said, "I am of the opinion that there should be no cooperation with the DEM Party. Such a thing is out of the question in Bolu, and it will not happen. I prefer not to even walk on the same sidewalk as DEM Party members, let alone cooperate with them.

I have no business with those who engage in ethnic nationalism, but if party officials are engaging in this cooperation, I would not be pleased with it, though I would leave the final decision to the Party Assembly."
