Tensions flared during a visit to Esenyurt by Victory Party (Zafer Partisi) Chairman Ümit Özdağ and the party's Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality mayoral candidate Azmi Karamahmutoğlu, after a foreign pharmacist told them, "do not film here."
Victory Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ and the Victory Party's Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality mayoral candidate Azmi Karamahmutoğlu conducted a shopkeeper visit in Esenyurt. During the visit, tensions arose after a Syrian pharmacist said, "do not film here." The tension was prevented from escalating further by police intervention.
Ümit Özdağ reacted when he saw signs with Syrian names on the street he entered.
Özdağ stated the following:
“The Middle East should remain in the Middle East. Turkey should continue to be a bridge between the Middle East and the Balkans with its unique character. But we see that the Middle East is advancing into Turkey with each passing day, and Turkey is becoming Middle Eastern with each passing day.”
It was noted that the name of the pharmacy was “Damascus Pharmacy” (Şam Eczanesi).
