'You cannot hold us accountable' tension between AKP and CHP deputies: Trustee debate in the commission
The tension between CHP and AKP deputies at the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission changed the course of the meeting.
At the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission meeting, CHP deputies expressed their reactions regarding the removal of the Istanbul Provincial Administration from office by court order.
During this time, the outburst from AKP deputies saying, "You cannot hold us accountable," raised the tension in the meeting.
TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, who chaired the meeting, emphasized that the commission should not turn into an arena of conflict between political parties. Kurtulmuş said, "We will discuss issues of democracy and brotherhood, but we must not lose our main focus."
After the representatives of labor and civil servant union confederations were heard in the commission, CHP Ankara Deputy Okan Konuralp reacted to the words of AKP's Cüneyt Yüksel, who claimed that "what happened is an internal matter of the CHP."
Meanwhile, the tension increased upon the reaction of the AKP members. With Kurtulmuş's intervention, representatives of other parties continued their speeches.
In his closing speech at the end of the meeting, Kurtulmuş stated that "we must ensure a broad consensus of society," noting that the views of different unions and groups were also taken. He also pointed out that imperialist policies in the region could harm Turkey and the peoples of the region.
It was announced that employer groups, chambers, and exchanges will be heard at the ninth meeting to be held tomorrow at 14:00.
