Tensions boil among the People's Alliance's junior partners: The Öcalan polemic!

Tensions have risen between the People's Alliance partners, the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and the Great Unity Party (BBP), ahead of a potential visit to Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı by the 'Terror-Free Turkey' Commission in Parliament. BBP Chairman Mustafa Destici opposed this visit, arguing that the process serves to legitimize the PKK.

Destici stated, "Meeting with İmralı is essentially a proposal to go to Öcalan. This means the legalization of a terrorist leader who has betrayed our country for 40 years, and it is unacceptable." Destici noted that such steps could lead to dangerous consequences for the state and society.

SHARP RESPONSE FROM MHP TO DESTİCİ

MHP Deputy Chairman İsmail Özdemir responded to Destici with harsh language. Accusing Destici of harming the goals of the People's Alliance, Özdemir asked, "What are you trying to achieve without taking any responsibility for Turkey and our national goals?"

At a press conference held at his party's headquarters, Destici responded to the criticisms from the MHP. "We watch with astonishment as those who oppose the legitimization of the PKK are accused of benefiting from terrorism," said Destici, adding that they would closely follow developments and continue to express their opinions.

Destici stated, "We will never compromise on the unity of our nation and our country. In this process, we watch with concern as those who object to the PKK's mission being summarized as a desire for peace are being blamed."
