Tensions rise in the General Assembly: CHP protests 'absolute nullity' in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey

The session at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly was presided over by Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Celal Adan. Before the discussion of legislative proposals, political parties presented research motions on topics they had placed on the agenda for the attention of the General Assembly. In this context, the Republican People's Party (CHP) Group submitted a motion to investigate “coups in Turkey, interventions in democracy, and absolute nullity decisions directed at the Republican People's Party.”

As soon as the motion began to be discussed, AKP Justice Commission Chairman Cüneyt Yüksel took the floor on behalf of his party. However, as soon as Yüksel began his speech, reactions rose from the CHP group. CHP deputies began banging on their desk lids to protest the speech. This tension in the parliamentary hall continued until Yüksel completed his remarks.

Following Yüksel's speech, CHP deputies requested a quorum check. Consequently, it was checked whether there was a sufficient number of members present for the meeting. Upon determining that there was no quorum, Deputy Speaker Celal Adan decided to take a 15-minute break in the General Assembly.
