The number of political parties is rising rapidly: 2024 was a record year
There has been a record increase in political parties following the Presidential Government System. In 2024, 33 new parties were established, bringing the total number to 168. With the 'Yeni Yol' (New Path) party, formed by the merger of DEVA, Saadet, and Gelecek parties, this figure will reach 169.
With the implementation of the Presidential Government System, the number of political parties in Turkey has increased rapidly.
According to Gazete Duvar, 17 new political parties were established in 2020, 15 in 2021, 3 in 2022, and 27 in 2023. However, the record was broken in 2024. This year, exactly 33 new political parties were established, reaching the highest figure on an annual basis.
HOW MANY POLITICAL PARTIES ARE THERE IN TURKEY?
With the latest figures, the total number of political parties in Turkey has risen to 168. This number will increase to 169 with the addition of the “Yeni Yol” party, for which the establishment petition was filed in the first week of 2025 and which was formed by the merger of the DEVA, Saadet, and Gelecek parties.
