This claim has stirred the corridors: 'Ankara' adjustment to the press conference organized by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office!
It has been alleged that the press conference planned by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on the day the indictment for the IMM investigation was announced was revised following intervention from Ankara and turned into an information meeting. The CHP stated that the indictment was prepared with insufficient evidence and argued that the process is political.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was planning to hold a press conference for the first time on November 11, the day it announced the indictment for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) investigation.
However, this meeting was surprisingly revised and turned into an "information meeting." It was alleged that this information meeting, which the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office held with specific journalists, was a change made due to intervention from Ankara.
"FINE-TUNING" FROM ANKARA
Journalist Nuray Babacan, regarding the transformation of the meeting, mentioned a "fine-tuning from Ankara," stating that the press conference the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor was going to hold to explain the indictment was turned into an information meeting where cameras were not allowed inside. Babacan claimed that this change was made so that the Chief Public Prosecutor would not turn into a political figure.
CRITICISM FROM CHP: "NOT A LEGAL, BUT A POLITICAL PROCESS"
During the period in which IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has been detained for 240 days, the CHP stated that there is no concrete evidence in the indictment other than witness statements. Reacting to the statements in the indictment that İmamoğlu's goal was to take over the CHP and become President, the opposition argued that the process has become a political process, not a legal one.
INSUFFICIENT EVIDENCE IN THE INDICTMENT
In the statement made by the CHP, it was emphasized that the indictment does not have a legal basis and relies solely on witness statements. Furthermore, it was noted that no indictment was prepared for 237 days during İmamoğlu's detention. The preparation of the indictment on the 237th day of İmamoğlu's detention led to comments in the public eye that it was "more of a political operation than a legal process."
Babacan also reacted to comments by legal experts in the ruling party regarding notifying the Court of Cassation about the CHP. She stated that, contrary to the Constitution, party financial audits should be conducted by the Constitutional Court instead of the Court of Cassation. She also argued that the judicial process is seen as a "formality" from start to finish, and that the process is being advanced without taking statements into account.
"ORGANIZATION" CLAIMS AND THE JUDICIAL PROCESS
Babacan also drew attention to the "organization" expressions in the indictment. Stating that a conviction decision is required to speak of organization membership for İmamoğlu and other politicians, Babacan said that in this process, the term "organization member" cannot be used without a court decision.
