TİP Chairman Erkan Baş struck by a stone
Protests by DEM Party supporters continue in Van. Tension remained high in the city today. Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) Chairman Erkan Baş, who went to the city to support DEM Party members, was struck in the head by a stone during the protests.
The city was thrown into turmoil following the decision by the Van Provincial Election Board to deem DEM Party candidate Abdullah Zeydan "unelected" on the grounds that he "lacked the eligibility to be elected," and to award the certificate of election to the second-place candidate who had the next highest number of votes and possessed the necessary eligibility.
THEY LIT FIRES
DEM Party supporters reacted to the decision and held marches. Last night, DEM Party supporters blocked roads in the city and lit fires. It was reported that there were numerous detentions in the incidents, which also spread to other provinces.
