Trustee tension at CHP Istanbul Provincial Headquarters: CHP Youth Branches issue a call!
While Gürsel Tekin is expected to arrive at the provincial building tomorrow, the CHP has launched a "democracy watch." The Istanbul Governor's Office declared a 3-day protest ban, and police intervened against CHP members. The Youth Branches have called for a gathering in front of the Provincial Headquarters this evening.
Following the court-ordered appointment of Gürsel Tekin as a temporary trustee to the CHP Istanbul Provincial Headquarters, he is expected to arrive at the Provincial Headquarters tomorrow. The CHP has launched a "democracy watch against the trustee" in front of the provincial building.
PROTEST BAN DECISION FROM THE ISTANBUL GOVERNOR'S OFFICE
The Istanbul Governor's Office issued a 3-day protest ban in the districts of Beşiktaş, Beyoğlu, Eyüpsultan, Kağıthane, Sarıyer, and Şişli hours before Monday.
In its statement, the Governor's Office said, "All kinds of rallies, press statements, open-air meetings, protest marches, tent pitching, setting up stands, sit-ins, signature campaigns, memorial ceremonies, etc., as well as the distribution of flyers, hanging of banners/posters, etc., in our province's Beşiktaş, Beyoğlu, Eyüpsultan, Kağıthane, Sarıyer, and Şişli districts are prohibited from 20:00 on Sunday, 07.09.2025, until 23:59 on 10.09.2025, in accordance with the obligations arising from Article 11, paragraphs (a) and (c) of the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442 and Articles 17 and 19 of the Law on Meetings and Demonstration Marches No. 2911."
POLICE INTERVENE, TENSIONS RISE
Tensions rose in front of the Provincial Headquarters ahead of the critical Monday. Following the Governor's Office's ban decision, police began to intervene against the CHP members keeping watch.
One person was detained.
CALL TO GATHER FROM THE YOUTH BRANCHES
The CHP Istanbul Youth Branches issued a call to gather in front of the Istanbul Provincial Headquarters at 23:00 this evening.
In the call made from the Youth Branches' social media account, the following statements were used: "The People's House cannot be taken over! We will resist with the spirit of Saraçhane; we will not surrender our democracy to trustees. We will stand shoulder to shoulder with our Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik. We invite all Istanbulites to defend our last bastion; we are waiting for you at our Istanbul Provincial Headquarters."
