Turmoil continues in İYİ Party: Another resignation
Hakan Alkan, who served as Deputy Provincial Chair during the tenure of former İYİ Party Istanbul Provincial Chair Buğra Kavuncu—who has been announced as the candidate for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB)—has announced his resignation from the party.
In the İYİ Party, which announced that it would enter the March 31 elections with its own candidates in all 81 provinces, the resignations continue.
Following mass resignations within the party's organizations in many provinces and among council members, numerous deputies who entered Parliament in the May 14 elections also announced their resignations from the İYİ Party. While the decision to run alone in the March 31 elections was cited as the reason for these resignations, the latest news of departure came from one of the closest figures to the İYİ Party's İBB candidate Buğra Kavuncu. ANNOUNCED HIS RESIGNATION
İYİ Party Chair Meral Akşener, who received full authority from the General Administrative Board (GİK) to determine candidates for the elections, had announced Buğra Kavuncu as her party's Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) candidate. Hakan Alkan, a former advisor to the Prime Ministry who worked alongside Kavuncu during his years as the Istanbul Provincial Chair and held significant positions within the provincial presidency for many years, announced that he has resigned from the İYİ Party.
Announcing his resignation on his social media account, Alkan stated, "I served as the Provincial Vice President responsible for Local Governments and International Relations during the previous term at the İYİ Party Istanbul Provincial Presidency. For some time now, the management approach and policies of the Headquarters have not aligned with my own views. For this reason, I am parting ways with the ranks of the İYİ Party, which I served with sincerity. Sincerely."
