Two candidates withdraw from race following fight in CHP
A fight that broke out during delegate elections in Samsun has led two CHP Atakum District Chair candidates to withdraw from the race. It was reported that there were injuries during the incident in Cumhuriyet neighborhood.
Prof. Dr. Şevket Özkaya and Attorney Ali İzzet Kavtelek, who were candidates for the CHP Atakum District Chair, decided to withdraw from their candidacy following the violent incidents that occurred during the election. In statements made on their social media accounts, they expressed that such incidents harm the democratic structure of the party.
The incident erupted when a dispute between the parties during the delegate elections in Cumhuriyet neighborhood quickly turned into a fight. Following the fight, Prof. Dr. Şevket Özkaya and Attorney Ali İzzet Kavtelek announced their withdrawal from the race in statements made via social media, stating that the violent events that took place were unacceptable.
