Ümit Özdağ met with detainees in Silivri: İmamoğlu demands defense on TRT
Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ visited individuals held at Silivri Prison and conveyed İmamoğlu's request to present his defense on TRT.
Zafer Party Chairman Prof. Dr. Ümit Özdağ visited Ekrem İmamoğlu, Fatih Altaylı, Aykut Erdoğdu, Buğra Gökce, Ali Sukas, and Tayfun Kahraman, who are being held at the Marmara Prison in Silivri. In a statement made upon leaving the prison, Özdağ noted that the morale of the detainees was high and said, "I hope that after the upcoming elections, we will see a Turkey where the 'enemy criminal law' approach is completely removed from the agenda."
During the visit, Özdağ also met with Tayfun Kahraman, who expressed concerns regarding the non-implementation of Constitutional Court rulings. Kahraman shared his anxieties about the rule of law, asking, "Is the Constitutional Court not the highest judicial body in this country? If its decisions are not implemented, which one of us can say we are secure before the law?"
Ekrem İmamoğlu stated that the trial should begin as soon as possible and that he wants to present his defense live on TRT. Calling for transparency, İmamoğlu said, "If they trust the indictment and the allegations they have put forward, they should also be open to debating this in front of the public."
In his meeting with Özdağ, Fatih Altaylı described the current legal situation as a "natural consequence of the new enemy criminal law environment" and expressed his astonishment at the decision. Özdağ noted that he observed Altaylı feeling compelled to accept this situation.
In his statement following the visit, Özdağ emphasized that he was pleased to see the high morale of the detainees and stressed that the rule of law must be established in Turkey.
